Don’t Subscribe to PewDiePie?
One of YouTube’s most popular creators has called for an end to his “Subscribe to PewDiePie” movement following the fallout from the recent Christchurch mosque shootings.
The “Subscribe to PewDiePie” meme came about as a result of the subscriber battle between Felix “PewDiePie” Kjellberg, an independent content creator, and T-Series, an Indian media corporation. Kjellberg says what was initially a call for subscribers and started with such positivity has become twisted into meaning something else now with people like the ChCh shooter using the meme before going on to slay 50 muslim worshippers.
Kjellberg has been labelled a racist for some of the content on his channel but he has hit back saying” these were not meant to be taken seriously…….to make it perfectly clear: no, I’m not racist. I don’t support any kind of racist comments or hate towards anyone”.
He has asked his subscribers to completely stop the meme as he does not want his name being associated with any acts of racism or hate adding that the acts of hate overpower all the amazing things his community was doing including raising money for charities in India and around the world.
Unfortunately for him I think it might be the beginning of the end.
