10 Things That Will Make 80s Kids Feel Old!

The 80s was full of decade defining moments, some of them fictional and some of them tragically real. Many of them were broadcast on TV and with only a few channels to choose from the majority of us were witness to them through our TV Screens. Here’s our list of 10 80s tv moments that we’ll always remember!

1. Scott & Charlene Get Married

As weddings go this was probably second only to another certain wedding further down our list. We all tuned in to see the pair get married. It also gave Angry Anderson a hit record with ‘Suddenly’  Get your tissues out here it is in all it’s glory!

2. Torvill & Dean Win Olympic Gold

It was the winter of 1984 and the nation gathered around their TV sets with bated breath to see Torvill and Dean perform there Bolero routine. Not only did they win gold but they were awarded the perfect score! There place in the nations heart remains as strong today. Here is their Winning Bolero performance.

3. Channel 4 Starts

It was the 2nd November 1982 4.45pm (Why didn’t they go with 4.44pm) when the nation gained a fourth TV channel. In this day and age new channels appear almost daily but back then it was a very big deal. The first programme ever broadcast on Channel 4 was of course Countdown!

4. Michael Jackson’s Thriller Video Premieres on UK TV

The video everybody wanted to see premiered on channel 4 in 1983, it was on too late for us to watch as kids so we taped it and watched the next night before bed! What a mistake!

5. Charles and Diana’s Wedding

July 29th 1981: It was like something out of a fairy tale, she was and always will be the people’s Princess, that’s why we all stopped to watch the wedding of the century!

6. Live Aid

On July 13th 1985 two of the greatest concerts ever were staged thanks to Sir Bob Geldof and Midge Ure. Bob asked the world to ‘Give us your money’ and we did in the millions as we watched the Star studded line up of the concert unfold before our eyes.

7. Who Shot Jr

One of the most remembered soap story lines, the question on everybody’s lips was who shot Jr. So closely guarded the tapes containing the reveal were flown into the country under armed guard!

8. Maradona The Hand of God!

We still find this very hard to talk about! If you can bear it here’s the clip!

9. Den Gives Angie Divorce Papers On Christmas Day

Christmas Day Eastenders has now become as much a part of Christmas as the Turkey for some people. How could we forget the moment Dirty Den handed Angie the divorce papers with the line ‘Happy Christmas Ang!’

10. The Challenger Disaster – 80s TV Moments

This tragic accident will be remembered by our generation for a long time. Many of us at the time had raced home to watch after school TV when the broadcast was interrupted with the news of the challenger disaster.
