MTV Is Now Ready To Reboot ‘Celebrity Deathmatch’
MTV is now all set to bring back the show, Celebrity Deathmatch for one more round.
The resurrection of the series is going to be produced by Ice Cube, who is directing the all-new show’s voice cast. This series will air on several networks and also a number of streaming services.
Celebrity Deathmatch is the most recent property within an initiative of Viacom CEO Bob Bakish’s strategy to revitalize many popular MTV shows. The Real World was the very first of the reboots from MTV Studios and had landed an entirely brand new home on Facebook Watch.
The creator of Celebrity Deathmatch, Eric Fogel will be the executive producer of the revival with Ice Cube. Jeff Kwatinetz and Ben Hurwitz from Cube Vision will also be executive producers.
MTV Studios now plans to position Celebrity Deathmatch on a 3rd party network in this calendar year, 2019 since Viacom attempts to monetize the back catalog. Aeon Flux, Made And Daria, have been restored, also, though The Real World is the only one to obtain a home for the moment.
Cube Vision now works with Viacom in producing Hip Hop Squares:
“We’re excited to grow our partnership with Ice Cube and Cube Vision to reimagine this fan favourite,” Chris McCarthy, MTV president had said.
“Deathmatch was the meme before memes remains a hot topic on social media and will be a smart, funny way to tackle the over-the-top rhetoric of today’s pop culture where it belongs — in the wrestling ring.”
Celebrity Deathmatch had run for 93 episodes for 6 seasons. This series had run from 1998 right through 2002.
This show had collaborated clay caricatures of several popular politicians, actors, and other media characters against each other in a professional wrestling match using OTT violence. For a little while, the MTV series was a counter-culture touchstone that’d spawn into a video game.
